Orthodontic Treatment for a Healthier Smile
When you have crowded or misaligned teeth (malocclusion), you may be shy about sharing your smile. Further, keeping your teeth clean can be a challenge, and diminished oral health can lead to a host of issues including gum disease and tooth loss.
Bayside Dental & Orthodontics offers a variety of traditional and removable braces to make orthodontic treatment practical and effective.
Which Orthodontic Method is Right for You?
For common orthodontic issues, we usually recommend starting treatment as soon as all permanent teeth have come in, or around 12 years old.
For Kids - If our dentists recommend early intervention for a young child at risk of a complex malocclusion, we may use a combination of jaw manipulation, extraction, and a short course of traditional metal braces. This approach is called phase one orthodontics and is used to reduce or prevent the need for complex treatment later. This proactive method is typically started at around the age of seven.
For Preteens – We encourage the use of permanently-attached, traditional braces for older school-aged children. Our dental practice offers a choice of different colors and materials to make treatment more personalized and fun.
For Adults – Mature teens and adults can choose from traditional orthodontic options or Invisalign® clear braces as an effective, discreet teeth straightening solution. Invisalign can correct common cases of dental misalignment and often work as well as traditional braces
Conventional braces that are permanently attached are a better choice for anyone who may have trouble wearing removable aligner trays for the full 22 hours per day necessary for a successful outcome. Permanent braces use a bracket and wire system to realign teeth.
Invisalign Clear Braces – How do They Work?
These clear plastic aligner trays are crafted from a detailed impression of your smile. If your case is typical, you will progress every few weeks through a series of 20 and 30 sets of trays over the course of a year to 18 months. Invisalign can even treat mild misalignment in as little as three months.
